FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
“God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27
The logo for Target resembles a bullseye target. As far as an economical place to shop, they hit the consumer target. However, when it comes to their new store policy, “welcoming transgender staff and customers to use the restroom or fitting room corresponding to their perceived gender identity rather than their biological sex,” they completely missed the target. The Church must have open doors of welcome for all to hear the good news of Jesus. Open bathroom policy is where the Church and Target will differ greatly because of objective truth.
I am fairly certain there is not a woman on the face of the planet who will be at “rest” in the restroom knowing that store policy allows a male sexual predator to use the same restroom. There should be no dad or grandpa on the face of the planet at “rest” sending their forty nine pound daughter or grand-daughter into the restroom knowing that a two hundred twenty pound male sexual predator is allowed in the bathroom waiting to sexually molest little girls. This is a likely reason 1.1 million customers have pledged to boycott the target stores, hitting Target with a financial loss of $2.5 million according to Family Policy Alliance. As God’s people we are directed by His Word, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves…Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy (Proverbs 31).” How in the world did we as a society get confused as to where to go to the bathroom?
Most, if not all of us, are familiar with the animal world and we can usually see that animals are not too fussy where they go or who is around. My point is that we are not animals. The above Scripture passage hits the “target” dead center in helping human beings make the right choice, not only in choosing the right bathroom, but in all of life. The above passage clearly tells us that we have been created in the image of God, not evolved from apes. After God created the male and the female, “God saw all that He made, and behold it was very good (Genesis 1:31).”
God is absolutely, totally, completely perfect which means that He cannot make a mistake. When God makes a biological male (baby boy) or female (baby girl) this is very good. God’s final answer is; that it is very good for the men to use the men’s room and the women to use the women’s room. Anything else misses target. It may be possible that you may be struggling with your sexual identity. Please hear the gospel (good news) that God has made you a male or a female by His sovereign gracious choice. Consider singing the words of The Butterfly Song, “But I just thank you Father for making me, me.”
Got to go,
